Last week we hosted our first ever event at local Irish pub “Doolin” so it’s only fitting that this week we talk about the worldwide celebration that is St Patrick’s Day!
St Patrick’s day is the symbol and celebration of the Catholic Church in Ireland. Folklore tells stories of St Patrick driving the snakes from Ireland and using the shamrock to explain the holy trinity. The reality is a bit less exciting. St Patrick was a Roman British slave at the end of the 4th century AD, who was captured and enslaved in Ireland. He escaped, but later returned to convert the “Green Isle” to Christianity.
The Americans have since turned this holy day of celebration into the St Patrick’s day you may be familiar with. March 17th is a day to celebrate all things Irish! In fact, America is so dedicated to the day, in Chicago they turn the river green!
La settimana scorsa abbiamo organizzato il nostro primo evento al pub in stile irlandese “Doolin”, quindi è giusto che questa settimana parliamo della celebrazione mondiale del giorno di San Patrizio!
Il giorno di San Patrizio è il simbolo e la celebrazione della Chiesa Cattolica in Irlanda. Il folklore racconta storie di San Patrizio che caccia i serpenti dall’Irlanda e usa il trifoglio per spiegare la santa trinità. La realtà è un po’ meno eccitante. San Patrizio era uno schiavo romano britannico alla fine del IV secolo d.C., che fu catturato e reso schiavo in Irlanda. Scappò, ma poi tornò per convertire “Green Isle” al cristianesimo.
Gli americani hanno poi trasformato questo giorno di festa nel famoso giorno di San Patrizio . Il 17 marzo si celebra tutto ciò che è irlandese! Infatti, l’America è così dedita a questo giorno che a Chicago colorano il fiume di verde!
